Our First Annual Fall Festival was a success!
I just wanted to personally thank each of you for all that you guys did to help with our very first Fall Festival! I know how hard our teachers and staff work for our children all week long and I really appreciate you going above and beyond by giving up your own Saturday as you did! I can't speak for everyone's kids, but my own kids really enjoyed it and looked forward to it all week.
Thank you also to our amazing PAW volunteers for all of your hard work as well. Each of you always work so hard to help make Creighton a second home for our kids and our community. You do what you do without need of thanks or salary. You work tirelessly... all for the reward of a child's smile... and that takes a special person! Andrea, I know it was stressful, but you did a great job pulling it all together. Next year, we'll have a lot more help in the planning stages, I promise! Thank you so much for working so hard.
If we are able to do this again next year, I would appreciate some kindly worded feedback on ways to make the event bigger and better next year and in the years to come!
Sincerely,
Kim Asaro

2010/2011 Creighton Watch D.O.G.S.
As we saw the desire by many dads like my husband to play a larger part of their child's school environment, Joe and I became involved in the Creighton Watch D.O.G.S program last year. We learned about the program through our school counselor, Susan Fossler and Fathers.com. We had a great response last year and were impressed by the impact that our dads had on student morale and behavior by the simple act of being involved. With your help we hope to build on that momentum this year.
Creighton Elementary and staff are proud to be a part of the national initiative to get our fathers and male community leaders more involved in our school. Please join our school counselor, Susan Fossler, in Creighton's second year of the watchdog program and help make a difference in your childs life. Our first meeting will be held on:

Fruit Bowl in Appreciation of our Teachers
In honor of our amazing teachers and staff, the PAW club has placed a fruit bowl in the teachers lounge. This is a healthful alternative to the usual break-room treats and has been a popular idea thus far. We are looking for parents interested in helping keep this bowl filled. As of now, we are filling the bowl on Mondays but would like to have enough parents alternating to fill it on Wednesdays as well. This is a great opportunity for working parents to help the school when they are unable to volunteer. Cindy Watford is the chair to contact for those interested. Please contact Cindy at the following e-mail address cwatford@peoplepc.com

First Day of Kindergarten Blues
Who would have thought that I, as involved as I am, would have such a hard time letting my kindergarten child go on the very first day of school? It was an eye-opening experience that I won't forget any time soon.
My little one was so excited about school that I was completely unprepared for his unraveling as I sat him down at his table. He looked up and me with his beautiful eyes and asked me to please stay with him. I hugged him and told him that mommy had to go but that I knew he would have an amazing day. I stood up and walked out as he clung to his daddy begging him to please let him go home, for just today. He wasn't ready, he whispered. I stood by the lockers outside of the room, crushed, as other parents walked out with much more strength than I had at the moment. I had an image of running in and picking him up in my arms as we bolted the halls together. Just then, Mrs. Fossler, our school counselor, rounded the corner. I told her that it was MY kid having a meltdown and that daddy wasn't about to leave him. You see, his daddy is worse than I am. Well, of course, Mrs. Fossler knows that the best way to deal with this situation is also the hardest. Just leave, brave parents, he'll be fine. She sat with him for a few minutes and ushered Joe out of the classroom. He and I peeked into the window one last time, watching as he stared at the door, waiting for our return.
Normally, as PAW president, I would stay for a while, do a meeting or two, but I knew that today my only option was to leave. So we left and went home to a silent house. That is when, dear parents, I lost it. I cried. I missed him so much. It dawned on me that the first time I went through this with my oldest son, I came home to a two year old. I worried all day about the little things. Would he be able to open all of his lunch packages? Will he be able to manage his buttons? Will he ever find his way home to me? The little things. :)
All I can say is this... It was the longest six hours of my life. We could not wait one second longer as we headed back up to the school to gather our children. We drove up. As my youngest climbed into the car, I asked him about his day. He informed me that it was a great day and that he was ready for tomorrow! He told me about how much fun he had and that he made friends just like I said he would. I was stunned. At the end of the day he was fine and I was a wreck. I am so proud of my big boy and I am looking forward to another great year at Creighton!
To all new parents at Creighton... I've been there. I understand how you feel and I'm looking forward to working with you over the years. If you have any questions about volunteering, please e-mail me at paw.club@yahoo.com
Sincerely,
Kim Asaro

2010 Field Day
We had an amazing parent turnout for field day this year! Thanks to ALL parents who attended and volunteered. Several moms helped with snack distribution as well as running stations. We had many WATCHdog dads, including husbands of teachers running water stations to keep our kids hydrated. Thanks also to our AMAZING enrichment team, led by Mrs. Mcdonald. They did a great job planning and executing the event. The kids had a great time with the new schedule of events and I am looking forward to topping it next year!

2009/2010 Creighton Year book is finally completed!
Our very first yearbook as the PAW group is done! It was a bumpy road as there was a giant learning curve ahead of us, but I am very happy with the results. Our yearbook chair, Crystal Oliver has worked really hard from the first of the year to pull it all together and I want to thank her, as a mom, for putting so much effort into our kids memories. Crystal spent the first half of the year designing the layouts and working with Taylor Publishing on everything from sales to portraits.
The second half of the year we spent taking pictures of our great students at
play and picking out those perfect moments to share. If you purchased a book,
look for its arrival in late May 2010.
Crystal and I want to thank the following parents for all their help as well!
Without their help, it could not have been done.

The second half of the year we spent taking pictures of our great students at
play and picking out those perfect moments to share. If you purchased a book,
look for its arrival in late May 2010.
Crystal and I want to thank the following parents for all their help as well!
Without their help, it could not have been done.

Creighton Farmers Market/Carnival - October 16th 2010
We are considering hosting a Farmers Market at the beginning of next school year. The date hasn't been set, but we are looking at Late September / Early October. To do this we are going to need a Huge volunteer force to pull it off. Andrea Fitzgerrell will be the Chairperson for this event.
Spend time this summer talking to friends, family and everyone else you know that may be interested. Also, pay attention to local fairs, markets and carnivals. What booths do they have, notice the number of volunteers, etc. I NEED all of you to help! Funds will go towards Creighton field trips and other school needs. But larger than that, it will be a great way to get our community involved and help local families and businesses.
The details are tentative at best but here are a few thoughts. We will most likely charge an area fee (or donation). We will request that everyone bring their own tables, tarps and anything else needed to run their booths.
Will need
craft vendors
fruit/vegetable vendors
plant vendors
canners
candlemakers
tupperware or any direct sales people
yard eggs
fall harvest such as pumpkins
hay bales
fall seedlings
herbs
I would also like to see families sponsor carnival games and booths.
Cake walk
Ring Toss
possible silent Auction
possible hay bale maze
moonwalk
face painters
petting zoo
dino dig
snowcones -
popcorn
I would like to see each grade level sponsor a booth as well
sand art
student art show
As you can see, we need ideas and lots of help. Each area we add, will need a chairperson to coordinate it. If we start planning now, all those interested will be able to spend the summer planning on what they can make or sell. Please e-mail me with any thoughts, ideas, or interests in booths. I will post Andrea's contact information at a later date.

Creighton Spring Health Fair - Reading / Writing Event
Eat This-Not That was the topic of our annual health fair event. This event was hosted by our Creighton Enrichment team and was meant to raise awareness to what is quickly becoming a childhood epidemic. Diabetes. More and younger kids are showing signs of insulin intolerance, which will lead to early-onset Diabetes. During this event we had a special guest doctor from Sadler Clinic discuss this with students and parents. There were exercise demonstrations, a bike raffle, and healthy foods for our Creighton families.
Our Paw Club volunteers spent a lot of time preparing healthy foods for this event. A very special thank you goes to Belinda Harrell for chairing this event and working closely with Mrs. McDonald. Thank you also to-

Our teachers also held a reading and writing event in the classrooms. It was a great way to show off what our kids are learning and to emphasize the importance of continuing their education at home. Packets were sent home with fun reading and writing exercises. Thank you to all of our teachers who helped with this event.

Creighton Spring Book Fair
This is my sixth bookfair with Creighton and although the economy is a big issue, our students and parents really pulled through for us and made this our best book fair to date! Our total fair sales were 7,220.42. That is a 758.15 increase over last spring. Of that our profit is 1,805.11 which will be used for books for our library and our students.
Thank you to Mrs. Massey and Mrs. Barfied for hosting yet another bookfair and for tolerating yet another mess!
Thanks to ALL of our volunteers who participated in this event.
